Change for the Climate is an educational conference, which will bring together a diverse range of voices on pressing climate issues. The key aspects of climate science and policy will be presented, in plain language, by academics, politicians, activists and members of our community.
Together we will explore strategies for taking action to influence key decisions makers in the lead up to UN World Conference on Climate Change in Copenhagen later this year. In the event that policy developed at the UN conference falls short of what climate science and logic demands, we as a community must have the tools and the networks to take necessary democratic action. Change for the Climate hopes to strengthen and consolidate an effective grass-roots response. We believe the most powerful systemic changes, which are required to stop devastating climate change, are born from strong and empowered communities.
ESP and Roots Maneuvers welcome La Trobe University’s Sustainability Task Force support for this student initiative.
Speakers confirmed:
Sen. Christine Milne – is the Greens Senator for Tasmania and Deputy Greens leader.
Amelia Young – forest campaigner who now works with the Wilderness Society
David Cameron – Department of Sustainability Senior Botanist and Flora Information System Curator & Threatened Species Officer
David Spratt – a climate-policy analyst and co-author of Climate Code Red
Professor Alberto Gomes – anthropologist and lecturer at La Trobe University. He has worked with many local groups in Malaysia on the preservation of their environment.

Details
Who & What: Roots Maneuvers, ESP and La Trobe University are hosting “Change for the Climate: Copenhagen and Beyond”
When: Saturday 12 September 2009, from 10:30am - 6pm,
Where: Agora Cinema, La Trobe University (Bundoora campus)
Why: We are entering into a period of dangerous catastrophic climate change. Our world leaders are meeting on December 19th to discuss what action they will take (on our behalf) to mitigate the worst of the effects. We believe that the public, our community, should be well informed and should demand relevant action from our world leaders, consistent with that recommended by climate change science. The community must be empowered with up-to-date knowledge so they can safeguard ours, our children’s and our children’s children’s futures.
Cost: By donation
How to get there: We encourage people to take public transport to this event. More details to follow
